Well, its week 6! Hard to believe that we're about 4 weeks away from the end of First Quarter! Time flies when you're having fun right?! Well, I dont know if the kids are ALWAYS having fun, but Ms. Porter and I sure seem to be having a great time. Classroom behavior is getting much better, I think its finally starting to feel like a routine. We're still working on States and Capitals, but that should be wrapping up here in the next couple weeks. After we've learned those, we'll be working on the beginning of our History as a country, and learning all the important dates and people involved in our history.

Math is going to start getting slightly tricky. This week we're going to be starting multiplication with double digits on the top and the bottom. Always have to remember the "magic zero." Be sure to ask your kids if they are having any problems. If anything comes up, dont hesitate to email Ms. Porter or myself! Hope everyone is having a great week!

Getting into the routine!

Hey everyone!!

So, we're almost done with the 3rd week, and MAN oh MAN are we getting back into the groove. I think it finally hit EVERYONE in 5th grade that we're here for the long haul, and its time to get cracking!

One of the coolest parts of the day right now, is our Read-Aloud time. Both Ms. Porter and I are reading books to our classes, and the kids are IN LOVE!!!! So many times, I hear groans after a chapter is done, because they know they have to wait til tomorrow to hear more. It's exciting as a teacher to know that your students are excited about what they are listening too!!!

We're working on Decimals in Math. Most important...always remember to LINE UP YOUR DECIMAL points! :) No matter what!

In Science we are studying the Human Body. The classes have made giant skeletons and are in the process of learning and labelling their bones, and vital organs.

Social Studies is still all about the states and capitals. There will be a quiz coming up soon, so make sure you are practicing your flash cards!

That's it for this week. Lots of things are happening, and its pretty cool!!!

*Dont forget to check your child's homework to make sure it is completed. We dont want to have issues with late or missing assignments. Please remember, any assignment that is incomplete MUST have a note attached by the parent (or an email sent to me) explaining the reason an assignment isnt finished, or it goes into the gradebook as a 0, and the student will have to complete the assignment during their lunch recess and free time. After school detention has started, and we're trying to prevent any student from ending up there!

2nd Week of School!

Hey guys!

So, we're starting our second week of school. Time for all the policies and procedures to be taken seriously! We have SUCH a great group of kids this year, it's been easy to slide right into the school year.

We're still refreshing ourselves when it comes to math facts. We're working on simple addition and subtraction (with borrowing) for the rest of this week.

Spalding has started as well. It is the spelling system we use here at Avalon. Please HELP us by working with your children on nice, neat handwriting! :)

In Social Studies, we will be making flash cards with the states and capitals so we can memorize them. Please look for these flash cards and help your children learn them.
